Inline Hockey Loses a True Champion
September 7, 2011 was a sad day in the hockey world. The KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team were lost forever. Czech Republic Inline gold medal captain Karel Rachunek was part of this tragedy and will be greatly missed by the inline hockey community.
Many people are aware of Karel’s ice hockey career with multiple seasons played in the NHL and KHL as well as appearances in the World Championships for his country. His ice hockey experience and high profile brought instant credibility to inline hockey. It was obvious that Karel was passionate about hockey and representing his country, the “C” on his jersey was further evidence of his pride. His presence alone helped grow our game and his play was always an example to be followed. It is hard to put this loss into words but Karel’s inline hockey legacy will be remembered forever.
Canada Inline would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends who lost loved ones on this day.
Canadian Men Finish 2011 Without a Medal
Team Canada wins their quarter final battle 3-0 against Team France with Martin Bradette between the pipes. Bradette was ready for the challenge after watching his counterpart; Mark Servos stop the German team with an equally impressive 3-0 win in the previous game. Only the host team stands between Canada and the gold medal final.
With less than a 10 minutes remaining in the semi finals verses Italy, Team Canada had their shutout streak of over 2.5 games snapped. Italy had seized the momentum and made it a one goal game. Canada fought hard but penalties proved costly and the game was tied 2-2 after regulation time. The Canadian men started to gain confidence through the first overtime but could not find the back of the Italian net. Less than 2 minute into the second overtime period Italy shattered dreams of gold for Canada.
The bronze medal final featured Canada and Team USA. Both teams had golden intentions but needed to refocus to ensure a medal victory. Team Canada could not overcome the disappointment of the game before and fell to USA 9-5.
Although the 4th place finish was not the prize the Canadian Men were hoping for, Canada Inline is very proud of our Men who fought hard for each other and their country until the final buzzer. Thank you for representing Canada with class, respect and pride.

Team Canada led the game 2-1 with 5 mins and 28 second left but could not hold on for the win. Sasha Nanji of Team Canada opened up the scoring 9 minutes into the game giving Canada a 1-0 lead. The USA responded only 1 min and 30 seconds later tying it at 1. It didn’t take long for Nanji to score her second of the game at the 11 minute mark, putting Canada back on top 2-1.
