July Update
Dear Canadian Roller and Inline Hockey Community,
We hope you and your families are all doing well through these times. We miss all of you dearly and wanted to provide some updates on the roller/inline scene in Canada.
We realize this has been a challenging and unique time for all of us and our heart goes out to the Canadian roller/inline hockey community and the many leagues, teams, and players who have been forced to cancel their seasons yet again, this spring/summer season.
We had been holding out hope for CI events this summer; however, we are no different. With each province at a different stage of restrictions and without clear direction of when the Canadian border will be fully open again, we are disappointed to announce that Canada Inline will not be sending teams to the following events this summer;
- Narch Finals
- State Wars
- World Championships
** Sr. Men’s National Team **
With it being a qualifying year for World Games in 2022 (an event that only has a Men’s division), we will continue to monitor the conversations with the World Skate Organization and the situation with the Canadian border closures / travel restrictions for the possibility of fielding a team if possible.
We are asking any Sr. Men’s eligible players who wish to be considered for the possibility of participating in the World Championships event this summer / fall, to fill out an application form. The application form can be found on this website under the Team Canada tab or can be found by clicking here. Once we receive more information from World Skate, we will notify all players accordingly.
We are confident that our sport as a whole will be back as soon as it can. We have seen tremendous growth and leadership in our leagues across the country. In the past few years, we have seen new programs develop in many provinces, led by committed and passionate people.
For those communities that are fortunate to have some form of roller /inline hockey this summer, we encourage you to support your local leagues and continue to enjoy some time on your wheels, even if the only option is a good old fashion game of street hockey.
We look forward to coming out of this time bigger and better than ever, with more opportunities for our players and families to experience this great sport, in their local communities and around the world.
Once we have official news to pass along, we will be in touch.
In the meantime, we wish you all well and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Ben Frank
Canada Inline President
